ARC Welding

February 6, 2021

The ARC Welder was the first type of electric welder invented and continues to be a very useful process. The most common type of ARC welding is also known as SMAW (Shielded Metal ARC Welding), MMAW (Manual Metal Arc Welding), or just simply ‘stick welding’. An electric current is used to strike an arc between the consumable welding rod (or stick) and the material to be welded.

TIG Welding is technically a type of ARC welding, but uses a non consumable electrode

The selection of filler material (sticks/rods) for ARC welding is extensive and allows for a large number of materials to be welded.
